8 April: Josh Thomas

Josh is the Minister at Petersfield United Reformed church, a post that he has occupied since June 2018. He is the link Person between Petersfield Community Radio and PACT.

He told us how he became involved with church radio: in 2011, while working with a church in Hayward's Heath he helped set up "Gift FM" a local radio station which sought to unwrap the real meaning of Christmas. The station operated for 24 hours a day over the period leading up to Christmas and consisted of Christmas music and interviews and it was a life changing event for many people. It brought people together and helped housebound Christians "rejoin" their old churches and brought the town together.

The exec rise was repeated in following years and local children joined in to help.

When Josh moved to Petersfield he discovered that Petersfield Radio was being planned and, combining his pervious experience and his faith joined up and as noted above is now the PACT link with Petersfield radio which aims to be a radio station for the community by the community.

Petersfield Community radio is hoping to develop through the following stages:

  • Monthly Podcasts:- these will be available to download or listen to on-line. You can hear a snippet of Josh's talk and interviews with some of those who attended the PACT Easter Service in The Square on Easter Day, Sunday 21 April at https://petersfieldradio.uk/2019/04/good-friday-open-air-church-service/

  • Weekly Podcasts: as more people become involved it is hoped that sufficient material will be available for weekly podcasts
  • Broadcast: later in the year it is hoped that it will be possible to broadcast Petersfield Community radio "on air"

  • OFCOM Licence: the ultimate aim will be to obtain a full broadcasting licence from OFCOM (The Office of Communications) which will allow broadcasting on FM and/or digital radio

Finally Josh asked us all to provide written suggestions for programmes on Petersfield Community Radio.
