We're now fixed in The Salvation Army Hall in Swan Street and we had a great night with pizzas, supplied by Domino Pizza - just down the road - with a salad made by John Ide, coleslaw and crisps. Plenty for everyone and some for people to take home!

Andrew recounted some of his adventures as a journalist in Liberia, Sudan and Nigeria - who will ever forget his account of getting lost in the waste-lands of Sudan on a bike with no brakes and only one pedal?

Throughout his talk Andrew emphasised puting his faith in God and not his own abilities in the most difficult of situations. His key verses were Proverbs chapter 3 verses 5 and 6:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight

Icebreaker

Everyone was given a sheet containing a few statements relating to issues of world poverty, disease and disadvantage - but don't get depressed: there is also information about individuals and organisations that seek to alleviate these problems.

Each statement will contain one, two or three blanks where some data has been left out. What everyone will have to do is to share their statements with others - someone will have the missing data for your sheet, and you'll have the missing data for other people.

Get together and swap data to complete your sheet - then read it, be sobered by what you read, give thanks for what you have and for those who are working to improve the lot of those in the developing world.
